ABOUT ME

My name is Ley Comas, I am a production sound mixer, filmmaker and educator. Born in Costa Rica and raised in the Dominican Republic, I migrated to The Bronx in 2013, where I continued my film education and career.
I received an associate degree in Video Arts and Technology from Borough of Manhattan Community College in 2015. Already fascinated by media studies and interested in learning more about gender beyond the binary; I pursued a bachelor’s degree in Cinema with a minor in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at Binghamton University. After graduating in 2017, I came back to NYC, restarted my career as a production sound mixer and enrolled in graduate school. In 2020, I obtained a master’s degree in Documentary Filmmaking from The City College of New York. In 2022, I became part of the inaugural class of the Fatales Forward: Trans Stories Fellowship.
As a non-binary filmmaker of trans experience, my work is grounded in collaborating and creating films that highlight and empower the narratives of historically underrepresented and oppressed identities. My latest film, Ni Aqui / Ni Alla has screened in over 20 film festivals around the USA and internationally. Winning four awards and receiving an honorary mention. As a production sound mixer my work has also been included in several film festivals and major streaming platforms. As an educator, I am currently at Temple University, where I teach Documentary filmmaking and Sound. When I am not workin on film, I enjoy bike riding, exploring culinary experiences, and spending time with my partner and cats.
